Marion Steam Shovel
55,000 pounds of metal was bolted and welded together to restore this 1923 Model 21 Marion Steam Shovel back to its original glory. Seen right in its completed stage, the steam shovel did not always look like this. When we began it was just a bunch of parts scattered about. We didn't know if some were missing or broken, or even if they were for this machine.
As we assembled it we soon realized we needed parts. With that we got to work machining the parts needed to reassemble this bahemoth.
After its completion it was then assembled on a concrete slab outside of the Huber Museum on the Marion County Fairgrounds, where it still sits today. |
